![]() Your ability and success is not defined by what people think of you, but what you think of yourself. Losing your drive and enthusiasm is self-fulfilling; the less you have, the worse it gets. Everyone goes through periods where they lose their drive. So here are some simple ways to get that energy back: One step at a time Getting motivated again takes a little time. So, just pick a small task, and address that. Break big projects and assignments into smaller ones, and tackle just one, then another - before you know it, you’re starting to feel like you’re achieving something, and that will boost your confidence. Be realistic Lack of motivation can sometimes happen when you doubt your ability to achieve your goals and projects. Maybe you’re demanding too much of yourself. Look at what you’ve got on your plate: is it realistic? If not, try and reduce the workload by talking to teachers, parents and lecturers. They’re human too! Take a break Sometimes, all you need to motivate yourself again is to take a break. Go for a walk, catch up with friends, treat yourself to a movie or a meal. It’s amazing how walking away from the immediate issues can help you see them with fresh eyes when you get back to them. Reward yourself Go on, have a treat! You may think you’re not doing so well, so think about what you have already achieved, and reward yourself for that. Remember the dream If you’re losing motivation, you’re probably caught up with the day-to-day detail. Just remind yourself why you’re doing this - to live a comfortable, successful, independent life. Now picture what that will be like. Feeling better? Ask for help If you’re not clear on an assignment, ask your professor, teacher or a fellow student. Just discussing the issues may make it clearer and kick start your energy. Read a biography Many of the famous, successful people we admire faced difficulties and failure in their lives. A biography will put your current challenges in context, and allow you to see you’re not alone. Phone a friend One of the oldest ideas in the book, but it really does help to talk. For many, studying is a chore they’d rather put off till later. Which means the amount of work builds up, until it all has to be crammed into the last minute. Here’s a checklist of study tips to help avoid the rush, and study more effectively.
Follow a study system such as ASPIRE: A: Approach your studies with a positive attitude S: Survey the material to get an overview of the task P: Piece it together I: Inquire if you need more information R: Relay your understanding in an interesting way E: Evaluate your response It’s difficult balancing school or uni, friends, family, time out and study. But with a few simple tips, you can learn to manage your time better - and find those extra hours in the day.
Life just gets busier and busier, with more and more distractions. As we get busier, we all need to manage the time we've got more effectively. So, here are seven top tips for getting more out of your day and being more effective at what you do: Create a list At the start of every day, make a list of everything you have to do. Prioritize the list: either way, it’s a great feeling to have a specific list and see what you've been able to cross off during the day. Measure time Try writing down everything you do for a week, and see how much time activities are taking. Even if that activity is ‘doing nothing’ you’ll be able to see where time is being used wisely, or not. Once you’ve done that, divide your day up into half-hour blocks. Allocate specific amounts of ‘blocks’ to each task, and stick to it. You’ll find having one task to complete in say, two blocks will help you focus. Multitasking is bad We all seem to think that doing more than one thing at once is good. It’s not. It means you may well be doing several things badly instead of one thing well. Different locations for different activities Change the environment to suit different activities. For example, if your bedroom has a TV, computer and games, it’ll be hard for that to switch to a serious environment when you have to study. Perhaps the library becomes your ‘work’ place, keeping home and your room for relaxing. Perhaps your bedroom becomes the work space, and the living room the place you can relax. Use the downtime If you look at a typical week, you’re sure to find some downtime - time where you’re waiting around or travelling, for example. Use that time to cover one of the tasks on your list, like reading a reference book. A half hour on a bus can achieve a lot. Include some ‘me’ time You’ll work or study better if you include some time just for you, to do what you enjoy doing. Allocate that as though it were a serious task - it deserves to be treated seriously, if you’re going to be able to get a better balance in your life. It can’t be all work and no play. ![]() If you feel nervous before an exam, you’re not alone. Most of us have anxious thoughts - ‘have I done enough revision?’, ‘will I be able to answer all the questions?’ In some ways, a little anxiety is a good thing - it helps to focus the mind and get the adrenaline going. Too much, though, is not so good. Fortunately, there are a couple of simple things you can do to control your exam anxiety, and reduce the stress. Before the exam A healthy body means a healthy mind. Although study may be taking up time you would otherwise use for relaxation, it’s important to eat well, sleep well, and exercise. Try some of the following tips:
During the exam Once you’re in the exam room:
After the exam First of all, it’s really important to stay positive. Don’t reflect back on where you had issues, think of where you didn't. And while it may be tempting to talk to other candidates about how they went, this can make you more anxious. You should also give yourself time to recover. An exam can take a lot of concentration, so allow yourself a ‘cooling off’ period to relax once more. Finally, remember that exams are not designed to make people fail. They are simply a standardized way of finding out what you do, and don’t, know. Good luck! ![]() There’s so much information to take in when you’re at College or university. How can you possibly remember it all? You need to take in as much as possible if you’re going to succeed. And there are some simple techniques for doing so. The brain is like a muscle; the more you use it, the stronger it is. And just like exercise, there are some techniques and skills that you can teach yourself to help you remember things. Try these next time you’re in a lecture or class, as a way of making the information easier to learn: Write down The process of writing something down forces you to concentrate. When we concentrate, we are more open to taking things in. When writing notes, give as much contextual information as you can - such as the day, the weather, the location. Get healthy A healthy body means a healthy mind. Exercise, regular sleep patterns and good food will all ensure the brain is rested and fuelled, and better able to operate. Send it to yourself If you find yourself forgetting things, try emailing or texting yourself as a reminder later. It’ll jog your memory, and give you a written reference. Find your learning style People learn in different ways - some through images, some through sounds, some through having a go, some through touch. Work out your way of learning, and use it as a way to bring the teaching to life. In a lecture, for example, drawing a picture might help. One student found that peeling an orange during the lecture helped by association! Believe in yourself If you keep telling yourself you have a bad memory, then you probably will. Tell yourself you have a fantastic memory, and it may well improve. Repetition Actors learn their lines by repeating the script over and over again. As you hear information, repeat it to yourself. Repeat it straight after the lecture or class. Then again an hour later. Try it the morning after.

You must note in Pakistan and many in many foreign country graduation is completed in two to four years. Where as in India bcom, BBA or any Other Equivalent is a three year course.
